Gearbox and Automatic Transmission Oils

What Is ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid)? Benefits of Automatic Transmission Fluids
Opet ATF products are developed to meet the demanding lubrication and protection requirements of electronically controlled automatic transmission systems operating under severe conditions. Thanks to advanced additive technology, they provide outstanding protection and lubrication performance while meeting the requirements of leading transmission manufacturers. Opet ATF products minimize friction across a wide operating temperature range, ensuring smooth gear shifts and driving comfort. Their premium rust, corrosion and oxidation inhibitors help extend transmission life while supporting extended oil drain intervals.
Types of Automatic Transmissions
Over the years, automotive manufacturers (OEMs) have developed various automatic transmission technologies through extensive research and development activities. The most commonly used automatic transmission types are:
1. Conventional Automatic Transmission
Widely used since the 1940s, conventional automatic transmissions are distinguished by their torque converter and planetary gear set. The torque converter can multiply engine torque by up to 2.5 times during vehicle launch, providing enhanced starting performance. The planetary gear system transfers power through pinion gears rotating around a central sun gear, enabling the transmission to deliver high torque even at low engine speeds.
2. Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
CVT is the only type of automatic transmission that does not use conventional gears. Instead, it operates with two variable-diameter metal pulleys connected by a belt. As the pulleys continuously adjust their diameters according to speed and load conditions, an infinite number of gear ratios can be achieved, resulting in seamless power delivery and improved driving efficiency.
Opet Lubricants offers specially developed transmission fluids designed for each transmission type.
