Hydrolic Oils

What Is Hydraulic Oil? Benefits of Hydraulic Oils

Hydraulic oils perform a wide range of critical functions within hydraulic systems. These functions include power transmission, wear protection, sealing, corrosion prevention, operation under high pressures, air release, foam suppression, cooling, extended service life, excellent water separation characteristics, environmental compatibility and low particle contamination levels.

Selecting the correct viscosity is essential for ensuring that all these functions are performed effectively. Using a hydraulic oil with a higher viscosity than required can lead to hydro-mechanical losses and cavitation damage, which causes erosion of metal surfaces. Conversely, selecting an oil with a lower viscosity than specified can result in leakage, increased wear, contamination and reduced component service life.

Hydraulic oils must be fully compatible with seals, coatings, paints, hoses, metals and plastic materials used within hydraulic systems, without causing adverse effects. As hydraulic oils are exposed to chemical, thermal and mechanical stress during operation, they gradually age over time. Therefore, strong oxidation resistance and long-term stability are essential properties. In addition, hydraulic oils should offer excellent filterability, allowing contaminants to be effectively retained by filtration systems.

Features of Opet Hydraulic System Oils
